Questions And Answers
1. Are there prerequisites?
Please Interview your mother or someone her age about her own birth experiences. Ask her what she remembers about her births, and how she felt she was treated. Also purchase the book by Penny Simkin 5th or 6th edition, The Birth Partner.
2. Are these courses online? Yes, all the workshops with the exception of July 21, 22, 23, 2026 In-Person Tampa, Florida workshop are online.
3. Where is this Certification good? This is an International Certification. No matter where you take the workshop virtually you are able to work anywhere.
4. Do you offer Payment Plans? Yes, a payment plan would look like this: $275 down to register, $200 due two weeks later, and final payment of $200 due two weeks later. Certificates would be sent once final payment was made. If payment is finished before the early bird special then it would be $50 less total.
5. Am I certified after I leave class. You are ready to work and start earning money as a birth doula immediately after the completion of the workshop, but the certification process will be attending 3 births & some paperwork. I will be available to continue supporting you on the first of every month at 7:00 p.m. etz through zoom.us. We go over the Certification process during the workshop also.
6. What if I have a nursing baby? You can absolutely nurse your baby during the workshop. Babies under one are welcomed. I highly recommend that childcare is arranged ahead of time. You will receive more out of the training sessions if you are able to devote your full attention to the material. Also, some portions of the training are hands-on and require your participation for completion. I am happy to provide you with the timing of these sections in advance as your training takes place.
7. Can I miss any of the workshop and still receive my certificates?
You can only miss 15 minutes of class time throughout the three days. I can work with you though and we can work it out through homework if necessary. I will also need to have you participate in the hands-on practice with a partner before you receive your certificates.
Prerequisites for the Birth Doula Workshops Before attending any of the posted workshops please Interview your mother or someone your mother's age about her own birth experiences and then bring that interview to the workshop. Ask her what she remembers from her births and how she felt she was treated.
Purchase the book "The Birth Partner" by Penny Simkin and begin reading it before the workshop. Please also read the Position Papers on the www.DONA.org.
On day two of the workshop you will need a partner to practice the positions so that you get some hands-on practice in!
